Erdogan says discusses Russia's Mir card payments with Putin

SOCHI/ANKARA, Aug 8 (PRIME) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed possible acceptance of Russia's Mir payment system cards in Turkey at a meeting on August 5, Erdogan said on August 6.

"There is also the Russian Mir card. Five our banks are currently continuing to work on that. There is big advance on the issue as well," the president said.

The officials also reached agreements on financial and banking sector cooperation, Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said.

"One of the spheres which has been actively discussed as well today was the banking sector in order for our companies, our citizens to be able to pay during tourist trips, in order to exchange money during trade, and big deals were struck," Novak said.

According to Erdogan, the sides signed a roadmap of economic cooperation and planned to raise the trade volume to U.S. $100 billion.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the officials did not discuss delivery of Turkey's Bayraktar remote piloted vehicles.
